Facilities

STAMP maintains two lab spaces in Tate Hall 330 and 340 for sample preparation, petrography, and imaging. STAMP also has a group meeting room in Tate 344. The 330/340 labs are generally for use by the STAMP group and affiliated collaborators. Anyone seeking use of these facilities should contact Christian Teyssier (teyssier@umn.edu) or Annia Fayon (fayon001@umn.edu). Additional relevant department and university facilities are linked below.

Tate 330 Lab

The Tate 330 lab is a designated space for petrography, sample imaging, thin section storage, and visual fission track analysis. The lab is equipped with three petrographic microscopes (transmitted and reflected light capabilities), one fission track counting scope with automated stage, and a variety of imaging tools (two slide scanners and a scope-mounted DSLR).

Tate 340 Lab

The Tate 340 Lab contains sample prep and polishing equipment and equipment for manual, heavy liquid, and magnetic mineral separation. This includes a Frantz magnetic separator, two picking scopes, a fume hood, and a separate clean room with washing table. A Buehler Ecomet with automated head and diamond polishing consumables allow polishing of round mounts or thin sections down to 0.25 µm.
